With effect from 1 Jan 2021, Malaysia’s Ministry of Health has mandated that iodine must be added to fine salt or salt being sold in grocers and sundry retailers in the country.

This is to address salt deficiency found especially in children between 8 – 10 years old.

In general seafood and seaweed contain iodine, as do enriched bread and dairy products from cheese to milk and yoghurt.
